What do we do when prayer feels unanswered?
In this episode, we reflect on the Gospel account of the Canaanite woman, a mother who refuses to give up as she pleads with Jesus to heal her suffering daughter. Though she is first met with silence, her humility, perseverance, and faith lead Jesus to proclaim, “O woman, great is your faith.”
Drawing from Matthew 15:21–28 and Chapter 331 of The Word That Gives Eternal Life, we take a closer look at this powerful encounter and what it can teach us about intercessory prayer, trust, humility, and remaining faithful when God seems silent.
The Canaanite woman approaches as an outsider begging for mercy, yet her unwavering faith becomes an example even to the apostles. Her story challenges us to reconsider the quiet, delayed, or unexpected answers to our own prayers and to trust that even the “crumbs” of God’s grace are enough.

In the Gospel for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus sends the disciples ahead in the boat and goes up the mountain by Himself to pray. During the night, the boat is battered by the waves because the wind is against it.
Then Jesus comes toward them, walking on the sea.
The disciples are afraid, but Christ speaks into their fear:
“Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”
Peter asks the Lord to command him to come across the water. He steps out of the boat and walks toward Jesus. But when he notices the strength of the wind, he becomes frightened and begins to sink.
His cry is brief and honest:
“Lord, save me.”
Jesus immediately reaches out His hand and catches him.
This Gospel of Mercy episode reflects on Matthew 14:22–33 and the saving nearness of Christ in the storm. The Gospel does not promise that faithful people will never face wind and waves. It reveals that Christ sees His disciples, comes toward them, and reaches for the one who calls upon Him.
Faith does not mean Peter never feels the wind. Faith means that when he falters, he still turns to Jesus.

As the sun sets on a remote lakeshore, thousands are hungry and the apostles have nothing but five loaves and two fish. This episode explores the Gospel account of the feeding of the 5,000 of the Catholic Mass 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time reading alongside Chapter 273 of The Word That Gives Eternal Life, showing how Christ transforms human insufficiency into overwhelming provision when we surrender our 'crumbs' to him.
Using vivid devotional detail, the episode connects the miracle to the Eucharist, examines the varied reactions of those present, and invites listeners to bring their small offerings and trust God’s abundance in their own lives. The Sunday Gospel reading is Matthew 14:13-21.

Chapter 174, the final Sermon on the Mount, addresses a large crowd, with Jesus resolving personal dilemmas, including marital strife and false accusations. His core teachings emphasize the absolute choice between God and evil, stating one cannot serve two masters. He condemns adultery, including lustful thoughts, and prohibits divorce (except for fornication), affirming marriage is dissolved only by death. A provocative interruption by Mary of Magdala leads Jesus to denounce impurity, causing her enraged departure. Jesus concludes by advocating charity, non-judgment, and building a steadfast spiritual life.

Chapter 173, the fifth Sermon on the Mount, focuses on riches, charity, and faith. Jesus teaches that earthly treasures are temporary and should be transformed into eternal heavenly treasures through merciful love and almsgiving. He emphasizes secret charity, performed without seeking human praise, as God rewards hidden good deeds. Jesus also advises against worrying about future material needs like food or clothing. He assures listeners that God, who provides for birds and lilies, will care for His children. The key is to prioritize seeking faith and virtues, trusting God for necessities and focusing on "Today". An accuser's interruption prompts Jesus to teach forgiveness.

Chapter 172, the fourth Sermon on the Mount, addresses oaths, prayer, and fasting. Jesus condemns oaths, explaining they arise from dishonesty and lead to perjury, deemed impious and treacherous. He mandates simple "yes" or "no," forbidding all oaths as everything belongs to God. For prayer, Jesus rejects hypocritical public displays, advocating sincere, secret prayer from the heart; God knows needs and may deny requests for future benefit. Fasting should likewise be private and joyful, not for human praise, for divine reward. The chapter concludes with Jesus healing a sick woman and arranging for her to care for an old, lonely man, sending them to Lazarus of Theophilus for provision and a joyful Passover.

Chapter 171, the third Sermon on the Mount, is delivered privately to Jesus's apostles and about one hundred disciples on a mountain. Its purpose is to prepare them for their mission. Jesus emphasizes forgetting the "inferior ego"—human passions, pride, and scruples—to achieve perfect discipleship and unity with God. He declares them the "salt of the earth" and "light of the world," warning against spiritual corruption and "sevenfold paganism". Jesus pronounces woes upon negligent shepherds, masters rejecting divine Wisdom, and spiritually dead priests who corrupt the flock. This teaching equips them to defend the Doctrine and the flock.

Chapter 170 details Jesus's second Sermon on the Mount, delivered to a large, diverse crowd including the sick. He explains God as a benevolent Father, contrasting this with the frightful Law of Sinai, and introduces Sanctifying Grace as divine love, which makes humans God's children and enables their spiritual return. Jesus then outlines the Beatitudes as a joyful path to salvation. These bless those poor in spirit, meek, mourning without rebellion, hungering for justice, merciful, pure in heart, peaceful, and those enduring persecution or false accusations for righteousness. He concludes by promising further instruction and healing

Chapter 169 details Jesus's journey to a mountain for a private sermon to his apostles and about one hundred disciples, preparing them for their mission. After meeting the apostles, who reported on their recent preaching and John’s surprising eloquence, Jesus instructs them to gather known disciples while excluding the public. He emphasizes the need to forget the inferior ego to become perfect disciples, uniting with God. Jesus proclaims they are the "salt of the earth" and "light of the world," warning against corruption and loss of spiritual purity.
